With great anticipation we announced the Chroma Chamber Orchestra's inaugural 2011-2012 season, comprising three concerts at Nichols Hall in Evanston as orchestra-in-residence at the Music Institute of Chicago. The CCO  programs late-romantic and early modern repertoire (and select contemporary works) of enormous appeal rarely performed by area ensembles. These works are presented in a context that integrates the performing, visual and literary arts to create a unique, multifaceted concert experience.

The CCO  collaborates with distinguished soloists, composers, writers, visual artists, choreographers, art historians - and diverse educational and cultural institutions (including MIC), from dance companies to art galleries, spanning the entire spectrum of the arts. Opportunities for synergy and cross-fertilization have been  truly exciting and unparalleled.

From the first concert on October 2, 2011, featuring internationally acclaimed soprano Elizabeth Futral singing Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, the Chroma Chamber Orchestra has redefined creative programming. The musicians, led by concertmaster Baird Dodge of the CSO, have been drawn from Chicago’s top orchestras and chamber groups, brought together by Maestro Crane not only for their exceptional caliber, but for their delight in both exploration and collaboration. These old friends, aligned to new purpose, have electrified their audiences with the innovation and beauty of these concerts.
